Scope of Work

At Ladybridge High School, Verde Services delivered a comprehensive upgrade to the aging heating and hot water systems, replacing three inefficient boilers with modern, energy-efficient units. The works also included flue upgrades, modifications to the low loss header and gas pipework, installation of a new domestic hot water cylinder, and integration of an advanced control system. To enhance climate control in the main hall, four VRF cassette units were installed.

Operating within a tight plantroom and limited access, the project required careful logistical planning and collaboration with a specialist lifting contractor. A phased approach ensured uninterrupted heating for both the school and adjacent leisure centre, which remained open during the summer break.

Due to poor water quality in the existing system, a temporary side stream filtration unit was installed to address sludge, scale, and corrosion. Once the water conditions improved, the system was treated with inhibitor to protect the new equipment and maximise long-term performance. The result is a more reliable, efficient, and future-proofed heating system that better supports the school’s needs.

Results

Despite the challenges, Verde Services successfully completed the project on time. The new boilers, along with the improved water treatment, provide reliable and energy efficient heating and hot water for both the school and the leisure centre. The upgraded system is now set up to deliver optimal performance, and the water treatment measures have ensured that the system will continue to run smoothly for years to come.
